Dysport is an injectable treatment that helps to soften the frown lines and wrinkles in the upper face. Also known as, abobotulinum toxin A, Dysport is similar to BOTOX, but offers a few subtle differences for the patients at Dr. Paresi of InsdieLookMD in Chicago. Similar to BOTOX, Dysport blocks the actions of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter in the nervous system) and this causes the muscles under the skin relax. Once these muscles are relaxed, the dynamic wrinkles that are created by the frequent muscle contractions are diminished for a smoother appearance. Dr. Paresi uses both Dysport and BOTOX to give their patients the best results; often preferring BOTOX on the forehead and Dysport around the eyes. Dysport generally acts faster than BOTOX and diffuses further from the injection site, which offers a greater “spread” of the results.
Administering Dysport
Dysport is injected via a fine needle to specific areas on the face. Prior to the injection, these areas are marked, and a numbing anesthetic is applied. The amount of medicine injected varies by patient depending on their aesthetic goals. Some individuals will have deeper, broader wrinkles while others wish to target fines lines (which requires less product). Dysport is administered during an in-office appointment that typically lasts about 30 minutes.

What to Expect
There is no downtime after a Dysport injection. Some mild swelling and redness may occur at the injection sites, but the skin will return to a normal appearance a few hours after treatment. Ice packs are often compressed to the site immediately after treatment to help calm the skin and reduce these after effects. Patients are able to resume their normal activities during the same day as their treatment. Results will become apparent within a couple of short days.
Expected Cost
The cost for a Dysport injection will vary depending on how many syringes of the medicine are needed during the time of treatment. The cost for one full syringe usually averages about $350; some patients may require multiple syringes during treatment to attain the desired results.
